The new Space Fence is part ofthe U.S. Departmenrt of Defense's effort to continually trackm and detect objects such as space debrizs and satellites in low and medium earth Space Fence will replace the current VHF Air Force Spacee Surveillance System builtin 1961. "The new Spacwe Fence system will provide better accurachy and faster detection while allowing us to increase the numbedr of satellites and other space objectse that can be detectedand tracked, thus avoidingf collision and damage to othed satellites," Rich Davis, director of special projects at Northrop Grumman'ws Advanced Concepts and Technology Division, said in a statement.
Australisa is a candidate for the first SpaceFence location. Two additional sites in other parts of the world are also under Los Angeles-based Northrop (NYSE: NOC) is a defenswe and technology company.
