The authority’s board voted Monday to extend its contract with Reynolds, Smith and Hills Inc. untipl 2012. The company will help the authority to builca $200 million terminal for Hanjin Shipping Co. Ltd. at Damesw Point. RS&H, which isn’t eligible to win the design or constructioh contract forthe terminal, will help the authorityg vet potential contractors, said Leerie Jenkins, the firm’s chairman and CEO. He said it wasn’t clear how much the extensiom would be worth to the companyt sinceit isn’t known how oftenj the authority will use RS&H’a services.
An RS&H principapl will help determine how the costs of the projecrt to improve New Berlin Road and State Road 9A could be The $11.5 million project couldx now cost the authority and the Floridaq Department of Transportation $13 million, said Rick the authority’s director. The authority put $2 millionm into the project, with FDOT kickingf in the remaining $9.5 million. It isn’ t clear how the additional costs will be split between the authorittyand FDOT, Ferrin He said the project went over budgeg partly because “there were too many cooks in the kitchen.
” Ferrih said FDOT approached the project with the priorit of eventually integrating the project with Interstate 295, whereaw the authority was more concerned with improving the road so it could better handle port-related traffic. The project is expected to be completerdin September.
