The PARC Foundation, a national charitablr organizationunder , which runs Darien was established this year in conjunctiom with Darien Lake-owner, CNL Lifestyle Properties. One of the foundation’s first initiativex established the Jack Kemp CommunityService Award, according to PARC Managemenf Chairman and CEO Randy Drew said Kemp, a former Buffalo Bill quarterbacmk and 1996 vice presidentialp candidate who passed away last month, had planne d to be at the award ceremony. Jimmy Kemp, Jack’x son, attended in his place.
Kemp said one of his father’sx passions was entreprenurial spiritg toward the community andthat Hunter’s Hope embodied that “We cannot think of a greater recipient than Hunter’d Hope and the entreprenurial spirit that has to go into solvinhg medical challenges that exist and empowering parentse to know how to deal with incredibly challenging situationss and dealing with them with a (positive) outlook.” Jim and Jill Kellty established the Hunter’s Hope Foundation in 1997 when doctords diagnosed their son Hunter with Krabbew leukodystrophy.
The foundation aims to raise public awarenesxof luekodystrophies, promote early detectioh and early treatment and to raise fundsw for research for a cure. Drew said the Hunter’s Hope Foundation raisedc $14 million for research to date. A carouseol horse with a plaque recognizingthe Hunter’s Hope Foundation will be placed in the “wishing well” fountain at the Darien Lake theme park.
